Plague Kids

Plague Kids is a reflection of Summer 2020, between school closures and the larger outbreaks that would overwhelm health services and society in general.  With hand-sewn masks and nowhere to go, it represents our experience of the beginnings of the pandemic, that innocent summer before everything really hit the fan in Fall 2020.

Outings with the kids were used to make pictures, in search of some sort of epiphany. An example of what life was like in those days, in those circumstances. How the world was affected, the universality if not the severity of the effect, all were touched in some way.  My return to mostly unemployment, the school closures dating back to March of that year. I became the caregiver/teacher for my children, something many families couldn’t do and the result comes from the attachment of always having them around and from the loss of opportunities, the loss of normality in life, the loss of learning, a new way of living, and of the moment in which found ourselves.

Plague Kids is a 21st Century Photo Diary with clear examples of that present we lived through around the world, the images will be placed in time, a specific moment, the beginning of the 21st century when homemade cloth masks were our protection against the great unknown.

All images were printed on an Epson Laserjet printer on the same paper stock used to print out the exercises my children were assigned the long days of home confinement.

Prints available upon request.

All images 2020. Limited edition books no longer available.
